Kate Guenther, LPC
Kate Guenther is a licensed professional counselor in mental health since 1996. She received her Education Specialist degree from James Madison University in the community-agency counseling program.
She received her Master Herbalist diploma throughAmerican College of Health Science (formerly Australasian) in 2006.
She currently is a student in the Kamana Naturalist Training Program through Wilderness Awareness School.
She has been avidly interested in animals, outdoor recreation, and nature her whole life. She is always on the lookout for coyote, bobcat, and weasel. Let her know if you see any.

Co-Facilitator: Nate Hefner, Ed.S.
Nate Hefner, MA, Ed.S., is a Resident in Counseling having completed graduate training from James Madison University in 2008. As a wilderness therapist, Nate worked for five years with at-risk youth fostering healing relationships with nature. He learned to utilized therapeutic opportunities through reliance on nature for shelter and resources which identified the lessons embedded in nature’s cycles and circumstances and encouraged growth. Nate has lead extended wilderness trips that both increase group identity and cohesion and also individual personal growth. He has experience as an adult outpatient therapist addressing mental health and substance dependence as well as conducting intensive family therapy.

Karla Souder has been photographing nature for many years with an emphasis on Virginia wildflowers. Nearly all the photos on this website have been generously donated by Karla. In addition to constantly trying to educate Kate about wildflowers, Karla is the director of a psychosocial program in Harrisonburg, VA that promotes recovery concepts and skills for people dealing with mental illness.

Workshop Assistant, Janis Norton, LCSW
Janis Norton is a therapist who works with individuals and with families. She provides neurofeedback, which is a training for the brain that helps with optimal functioning.
She has a long interest in family systems thinking and has pursued its application to personal and professional development over many years. Areas of special interest are sleep and its various problems, anxiety, and relationship stress.
